Splendour Line-Up Just Got Bigger with Over 20 New Acts Announced

Wollaton Park, Nottingham

Saturday 20 July 2019

With excitement building and tickets selling at record speeds following the announcement of Manic Street Preachers, The Specials, Rag’n’Bone Man and All Saints for Splendour on Saturday 20 July, a great selection of new acts have today been announced for this year’s stellar line-up.

Northern Irish rock band ASH, Fine Young Cannibals’ singer Roland Gift and indie rockers The Rifles join the bill on the Confetti Stage headlined by All Saints, one of the most successful pop groups of the 1990s.

Throughout their career, ASH have had 18 UK Top 40 singles to their name – including “Goldfinger” and “Oh Yeah” from their UK Number One debut album ‘1977’ – won awards for singles “Shining Light” and “Burn Baby Burn” from their certified platinum album ‘Free All Angels’, and headlined Glastonbury in 1997. Formed in 1989 by vocalist and guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray, the Northern Irish rockers’ seventh studio collection, ‘Islands’, reaffirms the trio’s status as one of the most idiosyncratic and singularly thrilling guitar bands.

The high, soaring voice of Roland Gift, frontman of double Brit award-winning Fine Young Cannibals, will also join the Confetti Stage line-up. The British rock band rose to fame in the mid-1980s. In 1985, their self-titled debut album featured hits “Johnny Come Home” and a cover of “Suspicious Minds”, which topped the charts in the UK, Canada, Australia and many European countries. Following this, the 1989 album, ‘The Raw & the Cooked’, went on to top the UK and US album charts including two Billboard Hot 100 number ones “She Drives Me Crazy” and “Good Thing”.

Crowd pleasers The Rifles are back at Splendour again this year to celebrate 10 years since their classic album ‘Great Escape’. They have even teased on their social channels that a new album is on the way – much to their fans’ delight. Fresh from the stage at Rock City in February, it will be the fourth time the indie band has appeared at the festival.

Over on the Main Stage and joining Manic Street Preachers, The Specials and Rag’n’Bone Man is X Factor winner Louisa and Mancunian alt-rock band The Slow Readers Club.

After winning the 2015 series of The X Factor, Louisa became the programme’s youngest winner at the age of 17. Her solo single, “So Good”, charted in the Top 20 UK Charts and received gold certification, followed by “Best Behaviour” which certified silver. The dance single she released with British band Clean Bandit, “Tears”, also became a hit in many European countries.

Described by NME as the next northern pophouse, The Slow Readers Club have supported bands such as Catfish and the Bottlemen and James. The indie rockers join the Main Stage line-up at Splendour fresh from their extensive sold-out UK tour and hot on the heels of a benchmark year which saw them earn a UK Top 20 album, ‘Build A Tower’.

Another Irish rock band joining the Confetti Stage are The Coronas, whose 2009 studio album ‘Tony Was an Ex-Con’ won Best Irish Album at the 2010 Meteor Awards, beating Snow Patrol’s “Up To Now” and U2’s “No Line on the Horizon”. Local East Midlands talent BRIA and Ava Saint have also been announced.

Also announced on the Main Stage is singer-songwriter Barns Courtney and local rising star Rob Green. The opportunity to open Splendour will once again be made possible by the winner of Future Sound of Nottingham, organised by Nusic.

Buckinghamshire born Barns Courtney released his first track as a solo artist, “Glitter & Gold”, in 2015. As well as reaching Number One on the UK Spotify Viral Chart and Number Two on the iTunes Alternative Chart, the single received radio play on BBC Introducing Suffolk and BBC Radio 1. He has gone on to open for artists including The Who, The Libertines and Ed Sheeran, and has had his debut single streamed more than 41 million times on Spotify.

Over the years, local lad Rob Green has progressed to play the different stages at Splendour. This year will be his first time performing a slot on the Main Stage. His latest EP – ‘ROB.GREEN EP’ – debuted in the Top 40 of iTunes Album Chart in its first week, and reached number three in the iTunes RnB Chart. He has won international critical acclaim for the innovative, continuous shot music video for Blue – the EP’s debut single. Rob is currently working on his debut album, which is aimed for release this year.

Across the park on the Courtyard Stage is My Pet Fauxes, Mid November, Esther Van Leuven, Megatrain, Velvet Blush, 94 Gunships, Re Teu, Camille Christel and Laurie Illingworth. Located in the Courtyard at Wollaton Park, year-after-year the stage is packed with acts that are earmarked as ones to watch.

Away from the musical talent and on the Comedy Stage is compere Andy Robinson, Suzy Bennett, Roger Monkhouse, Vince Atta, Sean Heydon and Nathan Caton.

George Akins, owner of DHP Family, organisers of Splendour, says: “The reaction to the Manic Street Preachers, The Specials, Rag’n’Bone Man and All Saints announcement was epic, with tickets selling faster than ever before. We know fans of Splendour were eager to find out the rest of the line-up and we think it won’t disappoint with something on there to please everyone in the family. It’s going to be a great day out; make sure you grab your tickets while you can.”

Hugh White, Director for Sport and Culture at Nottingham City Council, adds: “Every year, Splendour gets bigger and better – and 2019 is no exception. We’re proud to be a partner on another fantastic, family-friendly festival in Nottingham, and we can’t wait for as many people as possible to join us in July.”

The award-winning music event is Nottingham’s biggest party of the summer, with a fun fair, fringe entertainment stage, kids’ area and entertainers out and about in the crowd, as well as Gem’s extremely popular Weekend Anthems silent disco, back for another year.

Children under 11 will once again be admitted free and discounts are also in place for Nottingham City residents. Including booking fee, a standard ticket is £56.65, coming down to £45.65 when the Nottingham City discount is applied. Tickets for Nottingham City residents aged 11-17 are £22. VIP packages are also available and start from £87.65 for a Nottingham City adult.

Tickets can be purchased from splendourfestival.com or in person from the Nottingham Tourism Centre. To claim Nottingham City resident discount, a copy of your council tax bill is required.

Rag’n’Bone Man and All Saints join Manic Street Preachers and The Specials at Splendour Wollaton Park, Nottingham Saturday 20 July 2019

Rag’n’Bone Man and All Saints will join headliners Manic Street Preachers and The Specials at Splendour on Saturday 20 July.

Hot on the heels of his ‘Giant’ performance at the 2019 Brit Awards, Rag’n’Bone Man will perform on the Main Stage at the Wollaton Park music festival. All Saints, one of the biggest girl bands that the UK has ever produced, will headline the Confetti Stage.

Rag’n’Bone Man – real name Rory Graham – broke onto the music scene with his massive debut single “Human” in 2016, which became a major hit across Europe. His UK number one debut album, of the same name, also features the single “Skin” and became the decade’s fastest-selling debut album so far by a British male, outselling those of Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran.

The baritone singer-songwriter is a triple Brit Award winner and is currently enjoying UK Chart success with the dance-electronic hit “Giant” – an incredible collaboration with ‘Best British Producer’ Calvin Harris. This will be his first performance in Nottingham since his show at Rock City in April 2017, which sold out in less than two days.

All Saints are beloved by a whole generation of fans who grew up with them in the nineties. After a 15-year hiatus, the band reformed in 2016 with the original lineup – Melanie Blatt, Shaznay Lewis, Natalie Appleton and Nicole Appleton – released fresh material, including UK Top 10 Album ‘Red Flag’, and played a show at Rock City during their UK tour in December.

Back in the nineties, the quartet’s debut album, ‘All Saints’ (1997), went 5x platinum and produced three UK number one singles, including the double Brit award-winning “Never Ever”, “Under the Bridge/Lady Marmalade” and “Bootie Call”. Their second album, ‘Saints & Sinners’ (2000), became the band’s first number one album and achieved multi-platinum success, featuring UK number one hits “Pure Shores”, the soundtrack for the film The Beach, and “Black Coffee”.

Rag’n’Bone Man and All Saints, alongside Splendour headliners Manic Street Preachers and The Specials, are the first of over 40 acts announced to perform at Nottinghamshire’s biggest outdoor music event at Wollaton Park, with many more artists, comedians and entertainers to be revealed in the coming months.

For the seventh consecutive year, the Confetti Stage at Splendour is in partnership with Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies, a leading provider of creative industry education.

Craig Chettle, Chief Executive at Confetti, said: “We are delighted to be back supporting Splendour. It offers our music, games and media students unrivalled opportunities to gain real industry experience working alongside some of the best crews in the business. Throughout 2019 we are marking Confetti’s 25th anniversary and I can think of no better place to celebrate than at one of the country’s best music festivals.”

Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Localities at Nottingham City Council, said: “Splendour 2019 is shaping up to be another brilliant, family-friendly event in Nottingham. This year’s line-up will have something for everyone, and, as ever, we’re delighted to be able to offer a discount to City residents, with £10 off adult tickets.”

With lots happening all over the park aside from the three music stages, including comedy in the courtyard, a kids’ area and entertainers out and about in the crowd, the festival is a fantastic day out for all the family.

Children under 11 will once again be admitted free and discounts are also in place for Nottingham City residents. Including booking fee, a standard ticket is £56.65, coming down to £45.65 when the Nottingham City discount is applied. Tickets for Nottingham City residents aged 11-17 are £22. Manic Street Preachers and The Specials

Revealed as Splendour Headliners

Wollaton Park, Nottingham

Saturday 20 July 2019

Manic Street Preachers and The Specials will headline this year’s Splendour, Saturday 20 July 2019.

The two bands have an outstanding back catalogue with more than 20 combined UK top 10 hits, including If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next and The Masses Against The Classes from Manic Street Preachers and Too Much Too Young and the legendary Ghost Town from The Specials.

Manic Street Preachers were in high demand by Splendour fans, bagging the top spot of who they’d like to see at the festival in a survey conducted by the organisers, DHP Family. The band consists of cousins James Dean Bradfield on lead vocals and lead guitar, Sean Moore on drums and Nicky Wire on bass.

Throughout the band’s illustrious career they headlined several festivals including Reading and Leeds, Glastonbury, T in the Park, and V Festival and gained a host of music accolades including 11 NME Awards, eight Q Awards and four BRIT Awards. As well as their Triple Platinum album This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours, the band have had 13 UK top 10 albums, including Everything Must Go and their latest album Resistance Is Futile. This will be the band’s first Nottingham appearance since their 2007 Rock City show.

The Specials are one of the most electrifying, influential and important bands of all time and return to Splendour hot on the heels of a special 40th anniversary tour celebrating their formation and the two-tone label. Formed in Coventry in 1977, the trend-starting ska revival band hit the British music scene hard. In the UK their debut single Gangsters shot to number six and every subsequent single was a top 10 hit, including two number one hits – Too Much Too Young and the much loved Ghost Town, which won ‘Single of the Year 1981’ in NME, Melody Maker and Sounds.

Encore is the band’s first new studio album in more than 38 years, produced by founding members Terry Hall, Lynval Golding and Horace Panter. The highly anticipated new album will be released on 1st February 2019 and is already drawing widespread critical acclaim.

George Akins, DHP Family owner, said: “Manic Street Preachers and The Specials are two legendary bands and have made a huge mark on the UK music scene. We’re delighted to have them both with us on the main stage at Splendour celebrating two very special anniversaries. The crowd can expect a belter set of some of their greatest hits.”

Manic Street Preachers and The Specials are the first of over 40 acts announced to perform at the Nottinghamshire’s biggest outdoor music event at Wollaton Park, with many more artists, comedians and entertainers to be revealed in the coming months.

Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Localities at Nottingham City Council said: “Splendour has been a part of Nottingham’s events calendar for over 10 years now, which is a real testament to its popularity with both locals and visitors alike. This year’s festival promises to be another great day out for all the family and, once again, City residents can enjoy £10 off adult tickets.”

With lots happening all over the park aside from the three music stages, including comedy in the courtyard, a kids’ area and entertainers out and about in the crowd, the festival is a fantastic day out for all the family.

UPDATE (20/03/15) SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT! NEW ACTS ANNOUNCED!!!

Headlined by two-tone revivalists The Specials, the all dayer in the beautiful grounds

of Wollaton Park is set to be one of the biggest summer days out across the

Midlands on July 18 2015. Continuing the strong line up on the main stage as special

guests are the legendary James, perhaps best known for anthemic hits such as ‘Sit

Down’, ‘She’s A Star’ and ‘Laid’. With all seven band members coming back to reform

in 2007, the Manchester band released their 13th studio album La Petite Mort last

year to critical acclaim and showed the unique James magic is still firmly in place

with engaging powerful songs that demand to be heard live.

Promoter DHP Family, in partnership with Nottingham City Council and

Confetti, has been working hard behind the scenes to bring the perfect mix of long-

loved heritage acts alongside contemporary pop artists to cater for all the family.

One of the best all female pop bands of all time, Bananarama joins the bill for

Splendour headlining the Confetti Stage.  The band already share history with The

Specials lead singer Terry Hall who tracked the girls down to perform with Fun Boy

Three, the trio he formed with two other bandmates, for the single ‘It Ain’t What You

Do It’s The Way That You Do It’.  Will Splendour see the girls join Terry and co on

stage?

With 32 Top 40 UK hits, they went on to support everyone from Iggy Pop to Paul

Weller. For the next ten years the girls were everywhere and so were their hits, all

penned by the girls themselves. As their biography says ‘Bananarama were not a

manufactured band but three friends who came from the London Club scene with a

Punk attitude and were always in control of their own destiny.’

Singer of the moment Jess Glynne, best known for featuring on Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be’, which made number one in the UK and can also be heard on the current M&S food advertising campaign, as well as debut single, ‘Right Here’, will be bringing her distinctive voice to the main stage.

With their latest single Roads out in May and an eagerly anticipated album due out later this year, pop rockers Lawson will have plenty of fresh material to excite the crowd alongside songs from their debut album Chapman Square and their six top 20 hit singles including Juliet and When She Was Mine. Joining them on the main stage and described as ‘the voice of urban Britain’ by The Times, MOBO award winner, vocalist and rapper Roots Manuva, best known for the hit single ‘Witness The Fitness’, will be bringing his UK hip hop style to Wollaton’s lush fields.

The full main stage line up is The Specials, James, Jess Glynne, Lawson, Roots Manuva, Amber Run and To Kill A Kingand the day will be opened by the winner of the Future Sound of Nottingham competition.

The search to find the best unsigned local act to open the festival is underway once again with the Future Sound of Nottingham now open for entries, building up to the chance to play the Rock City final on June 14 2015. For more details, visit www.nusic.org.uk

Keeping up the tradition for bringing the best of the local scene to the attention of 20,000 crowd, will be Amber Run, the band who formed at Nottingham University, with a huge indie-rock sound laden with hooks and driving choruses that looks a surefire bet to be filling stadiums some time soon. Expect a great response from their growing fan base to tracks such as the anthemic ‘Just My Soul Responding’; ‘I Found’ and ‘Spark’ hot on the heels of the release of their debut album, ‘5am’, on April 27 through RCA Victor.

For something completely different, head over to the Confetti Stage where the Mansfield crew Ferocious Dog will be delivering their own take on Celtic folk by mixing up traditional instruments –  fiddles, whistles, mandolins – with a bit of rock n’ roll attitude. With their unique, aggressive yet feel-good music they are a favourite in the city making history last year by becoming the only unsigned act to ever sell out the Rescue Rooms in Nottingham, not only once but twice.

Second on the bill to Bananarama on the Confetti stage are Birmingham indie-rockers The Twang. Hailed by the NME as ‘Britain’s best new band’ when they emerged, their second single Either Way was a top 10 hit and strongly championed by Radio 1 while the band commanded a prestigious headline slot at Glastonbury on the John Peel Stage. The Twang have kept the albums coming and the anthemic guitar rock of their latest, NEONTWANG, is sure to keep the audience moving.

Confirmed for the Confetti stage are Bananarama, The Twang, Ferocious Dog, Iris Gold, Keto, The Swiines and Georgie.

Completing the feast of live music will be the line up on the Acoustic Rooms stage, named after the popular weekly event at the Rescue Rooms. Joy Mumford, Eyre Llew, Hhymn, Jamie Lawson, Molly and Jack, RJMARKS, Daudi Matsiko and Cedric Peters make up the offer for the final stage.

At the bottom of the courtyard, the popular Funhouse Comedy stage compered by amiable cheeky-chappie Brummie Andy Robinson will once again be entertaining the crowds throughout the day and into the evening. Ian D. Montfort, the Sunderland psychic creation of character comedian Tom Binns, very convincingly uses the cold reading of stage mediums to debunk their techniques with fantastically funny interactions with his audience. Bringing his musical comedy act Lost in Music, Christian Reilly, now an international comedian playing all the major comedy venues, started out in Nottingham. Expect sharp wit combined with effortless charm and the occasional snipe at histrionic rock bands, musical theatre and morose indie musicians. Presenter Ellie Taylor of BBC3 dating show ‘Song, Marry, Avoid’, awesome Aussie improviser John Robertson and brilliant young musical comedy duo Jollyboat complete the comedic offer.

The entertainment doesn’t stop away from the main stages with loads for children on offer including fairground rides, and a free kids area hosted by Big Top Mania, featuring circus skills workshops and shows, crazy inflatables, giant bubbles and Big Bear’s Big Balloon Disco.

Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure at Nottingham City Council, said: “It’s great to see more much-loved groups being added to the Splendour line-up. We’re looking forward to a fantastic family summer day out in the beautiful surroundings of Wollaton Park.”

Tickets for Splendour start at £20 for 11-17-year-olds and £34 for adults with a citycard. Children 10 and under go free. Available from www.splendourfestival.com

Two-Tone legends The Specials To Headline Splendour

Hot on the heels of two sold out shows at Rock City last year, The Specials will be bringing their infectious blend of two-tone Jamaican ska and punk energy to the main stage at Splendour for the first time.

For those who missed out getting their hands on tickets for the fast selling shows last November and for all those who want to get their skank on again, Saturday 18th July 2015 will be another chance to see the band renowned for the energy of their live performance, but this time in the beautiful setting of Wollaton Park. Widely credited with changing the face of pop in the late 70s, The Specials reformed in 2008 and have gone on to tour the world, playing to bigger audiences than ever before.

This summer the 20,000 Splendour Festival crowd can enjoy the two-tone revival with hits such as A Message to you Rudy, Too Much Too Young and Ghost Town sure to feature in the headlining set.

George Akins, DHP Family, who invited The Specials to headline Splendour after watching their two fantastic shows at Rock City, said: “Although the band were only around for a short time in their heyday, nearly every one of their songs from their debut album has rightly become a classic over the intervening decades. I know they will go down a storm at Splendour as they still sound as vital and relevant today as they did when they burst onto the scene in 1979.”

Promoter DHP Family will be announcing further acts for the three stages in the coming weeks and months. Already promised is an even bigger and better entertainment offering with fringe acts and a new expanded children’s entertainment area helping to deliver one of the city’s biggest and best family days out.

Councillor David Trimble, Dunkirk and Lenton Ward Councillor and Portfolio Holder

for Leisure and Culture said: “The Specials are a great headline act for our popular

family festival, Splendour. It’s a great day out, in a wonderful location, with brilliant

music and a fantastic atmosphere. We’re proud to be able to continue to offer

discounts to Nottingham city residents, and to offer free entry to children 10 and

under.

“We’re really pleased to be able to work with our partners DHP to put on such a

good show for Nottingham. With the comedy stage and expanded kids’ and funfair

area for 2015, it will be a really fun family day out.”

Tickets for Splendour are on sale from 9am Friday 13 February starting at £20 for

11-17 and £34 for adults with a citycard. Children 10 and under go free. Available
