An introduction to Rock City | History
To give you an insight into the company, here is some brief history into the premier venue:
1980
In 1980, it was our official opening! The very first band that was scheduled to play here at Rock City were Iron Maiden! They were on their way to becoming the biggest metal act on the planet! However, the gig had to be postponed so instead The Undertones stepped up and finished the first-ever Rock City gig with a rendition of Teenage Kicks!
1987
In the year 1987, The mighty Guns N Roses took their turn to play at Rock City! This was part of their Appetite For Destruction Tour! There were live recordings were made of the show, and even released on CD!
1996 & 1997
Finally, in 1996, the great Iron Maiden finally made it and played here at Rock City! This was after they missed out on our opening!
In 1997 we had a big year! The man himself David Bowie came to Rock City! A fun fact about the night, he requested that all of the backstage was decked out with rugs. We also had the rock monsters themselves, Marilyn Manson and Korn here too! Korn’s show was filmed by MTV for their headbangers ball. Foo Fighters released their epic album ‘The Colour And The Shape’ on May 20th 1997, and then the very next day they played here at Rock City!
2003 & 2006
Linkin Park performed to an insane crowd in 2003 and the whole show was recorded for BBC Radio 1. In 2006 the indie heroes Arctic Monkeys were here for the Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not tour!!
