The Slow Readers Club
With a new album out very soon, Manchester’s finest The Slow Readers Club are coming to Rock City in April. Their new album ‘The Joy Of The Return’ drops March 20th and the new single ‘All I Hear’ is out now… 2020 is shaping up to be a big year for lads in the ‘Club.
“I think it’s definitely our most interesting and accomplished record musically.” Says Aaron Starkie, singer, “Lyrically the album covers love, alienation, the rise of right wing populism and comments on algorithm propaganda. And as always, I try to deliver those lyrics with uplifting melody.”
Theirs is a dark power-pop that has pumped through their previous releases and pushes to new ground on their forthcoming record. Confident, mature and braver than ever, the album shows an exploration of sonic territories, from the passionate anthem ‘All The Idols’ to the poppier, melodic indie of ‘Jericho’. Infectious guitar lines, driving drums and anthemic choruses abound, with their trademark blend of insightful, brave lyricism versus danceable, heart-pounding instrumentation. They returned to a more organic writing process, with extensive touring allowing for experimentation during long soundchecks and back-of-van jam sessions that has breathed an authentic, energetic life into an eagerly awaited record. We look forward to welcoming them to Rock City, Nottingham, on April 4th.
